The field of orthodontics has come a long way since the days when children wore prominent metal appliances that often caused embarrassment and a reluctance to smile. Today, patients can choose from a selection of treatment options designed to provide healthy, beautiful smiles. Dr. Liu offers Invisalign®, the latest revolution in orthodontic treatment, as well as modern metal braces and porcelain braces.

Porcelain Braces

While today’s metal braces are much slimmer and less noticeable than their predecessors, porcelain braces reduce the visibility of these orthodontic instruments even further. Because the brackets used in these braces are made of tooth-colored porcelain rather than metal, they are subtler and more difficult for others to detect than their traditional counterparts. As a result, porcelain braces are often preferred by adults who require orthodontic treatment.

Invisalign®

Another option for people who want to straighten their teeth without having to wear traditional metal braces is Invisalign®. With Invisalign®, patients don’t have to worry about having metal in their mouths at all. The Invisalign® system straightens teeth with a series of clear, plastic mouth trays. Each tray is worn for about two weeks, after which a new custom-made tray is used to further straighten the teeth. The average treatment time is only about a year. One of the added benefits of the Invisalign® system is that, in addition to being nearly invisible, the trays provide patients with unparalleled comfort since they do not contain metal wires or brackets that could potentially irritate the mouth. Invisalign® trays can also be removed, which allows patients to eat, drink, and attend to oral hygiene more conveniently than wearers of traditional braces.
